Modelling using Explain Everything

At a recent Apple training event I was told that there is not ‘silver bullet’ app for iPads in education, but if there were one it would be Explain Everything. It is a fantastic app which can be used in so many different ways. It is a great way for students to consolidate their findings into one place using a variety of media and can be a fantastic modelling tool for teachers. This post will focus on the latter.

In the video below I have modelled grid multiplication by recording and writing at the same time. The result is a simple, easy to follow model which can be accessed by children at school or at home. In this example I have done the modelling, but there is no reason why it could not be a child who has secured the method.

There are so many things you could model with this, in writing this would be a great way model sentence types, in reading you could highlight relevant parts of a comprehension and so on…

Beyond modelling Explain Everything can also be used for assessment, especially for learners who find it difficult to process written feedback. Simply take a picture of a piece of work and talk through your thoughts on it. Valuable, real time feedback which the learner can take with them and watch as many times as they need to.

It may not be the silver bullet, but there is an awful lot you can do with it.

Using QR Codes on a blog

Here are two videos which show you how to use QR codes on a blog. The first is for site administrators to add a QR code generator to your sidebar, the second is for anyone who wants to use a QR code to link to content on a blog. This could be used by children to put in learning logs, for displays or by teachers to show electronic evidence in books.

How to post a 100 word challenge

Here is a step by step guide explaining how to post a 100 word challenge. Remember, you do not need to log out and log in again to publish the post – that’s the bit your teacher will do.

How to save a file to Dropbox

Year 3 have been learning how to save a file to dropbox. They have also learned about the benefits of Dropbox which allows us to access files wherever we are. Here is a quick video explaining the process.

How to hyperlink in WordPress

Year 4 and 5 have been learning about hyperlinks and how to add them to a WordPress blog post. This is quite a simple process, but there are a few things to remember. Therefore I have recorded a short video showing how it’s done with a brief explanation of what a hyperlink is. This is the first video of this type that I have recorded, so I would welcome any feedback.
